Teaching Philosophy

I believe that education is tool. It is a way to help all children grow and develop into successful, capable, thoughtful adults. Every child has the right to an education in an environment that is safe, supportive and intellectually challenging. I believe firmly that we must educate the “whole child” not just the academic parts of a child.
Children rise or fall to the expectation of their parents and teachers. Standards should be set high and those expectations clearly communicated. Tools and scaffolding must be provided so that every child can reach those goals. Every child has potential, and an educator I must help each one to uncover theirs.
Relationships are key to creating a vibrant, respectful, healthy classroom community. There must be an understanding, working relationship between all parties. This respect must exist between each child, the children and the teacher, and the classroom and the home. When problems arise, consequences for actions must be fair, consistent and reasonable.
The classroom must become like a family. A place where members care for each other, differences are respected and everyone works together, this way each member can do their best.
